All of us want to label everything. The arts are the worst offenders of this propensity with virtually everything being categorized into some time to style labels. This is none more true in comparison to "pop" music (the thing is there is a label there, can't go around it). This could be especially frustrating when attempting to categorize something that you feel cannot be categorized; is it Indie and Alternative music, or perhaps it mainstream.

Once i think about Indie music I do think of a band jamming away in the spare room. That is certainly it - a band! Not only a bunch of producers searching for the "Next Popular trend." The Beatles were like that, playing seven hour gigs in Hamburg, Germany. These folks were poor coupled with inexpensive instruments. The Beatles roomed in cheap hotels and a big extent blared your tunes of the Rock n Roll idols and some original songs. Naturally we realize so what happened for them - they went mainstream. Some would blame Brian Epstein to the, however it is unlike several Beatles themselves didn't want that given that they most assuredly did.

Once you suppose the sixties you will need to think that the entire rock music scene was Indie given it was so counter-culture. Needless to say that has been the business of the counter-culture; to ensure everyone that has been buying believed that these were buying the counter-culture rather than Madison Ave. With a large degree these folks were buying and participating in actual cigarettes. Maybe which was true Indie music.

Then this first golden era of the producer emerged and demolished the fact that was good. Out were trotted the sound-alike slick corporate bands. To be certain some of them sounded amazing; I love the group Boston for example. The Punk era from the mid 1970's demolished the demolishers in a brazen even from time to time bazaar release of anti-establishment energy. Then those bands split up and died, few or no went mainstream unlike their close cousins "New-Wave."

Those bands became popular plus a battle then raged between "New-Wave" along with the overly produced, but type of fun, Disco. Hair Metal and Glam also participated in the other great era from the producer. Finally, and some would say thankfully, that turned into the "Alternative" rock sound ensconced by bands including Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, or Jesus and Mary Chain. These were the brand new Indie until the fact that was good became destroyed with the lure of greenbacks and deficiency of talent. Pseudo "alternative" grunge bands suddenly appeared and took the attractive landscape of seething musicians twisting it into a sonic conformity that inspired such large selling yet forgettable bands such as "Stone Temple Pilots."

So here were - in another era with the producer where over-the-top produced bands like "Fun," and singers like Bruno Mars. And not mind the "Indie/Alt" bands like "Foster The People" or "5 Seconds of Summer" (did anybody else observe that "Hey Everybody" was lifted from another Alternative-band gone wrong Duran Duran?) which can be quickly attaining the un-dynamic sound of studio overproduction.

So what exactly is it? Maybe Indie and Alternative music is one thing that may only exist for a brief time period of time just like the element Neptunium. It might only exist as rebellion on the conformity of overly-produced Madison Ave. commerce. No problem with Madison Ave., nevertheless the burning energy of true, if temporary, Indie Rock is exactly what I want.
